NEW GUINEA

The top reasons to visit Papua New Guinea allow the country to get as many as 70,000 tourists per year. This country in the Pacific used to be a part of Melenesia. But now, it is an independent, self-serving entity that presents one of the most culturally diverse environments on earth. Studies show that there are 841 different languages listed for the country and numerous traditional societies. Sadly, in spite of its richness, Papua New Guinea has yet to be appreciated for the treasure that it is. But this should change shortly once the contents of this feature get passed forward.

Among the top reasons to visit Papua New Guinea has always been its geographical setting, balanced out by equally stunning beach and mountain destinations. Unknown to many, the country was in the pathway of opposing countries during the Second World War. And so, it now serves as a graveyard to numerous boats and aircrafts, providing thrill-seekers plenty of opportunities for wreck diving. And it doesn’t hurt that the body of water that surrounds it also serve as home to a large number of reef sites. So whether by day or night, you are bound to see something amazing when you check out Port Moresby, Kimba Bay, Madang, Alotau, Tufi, Kavieng and/or Rabaul.
Now, if you are concerned about equipment, you do not have to worry because there are plenty of shops in nearby cities that arrange boat trips and provide the necessary gear. Milne Bay, Bougainville and East New Britain, meanwhile, afford summer surfing amenities for tourists who feel like taking on the best of what nature could afford. And all the other months of the year, they can head on to Madang and Wewak for consistent waves.

Now, just because it’s surrounded with water, that doesn’t mean Papua New Guinea only has attractions dedicated to beach bums. People who are fond of hiking and trekking can take on the Kokoda Track, which was a trail used by Australian and Japanese troupes during World War II. If you desire something more challenging, you could climb Mount Wilhelm with your friends and conquer the highest mountain in the country.
To add to the aforementioned top reasons to visit Papua New Guinea, you should also spend time in Trobriand Islands, which are situated in Milne Bay Province. See, aside from the tropical rainforest it hosts, it is also one of the most culturally intriguing and fulfilling sites in the country. Indulge in their servings of betel nuts and join in their somewhat sensual festival dances.
