Historic Goreme National Park – Turkey

The landscape is marked by extinct volcanoes with Erciyes Dag on south and Hasan Dag at east. The length of Erciyes Dag is 3916m and Hasan Dag is 3253m. The park and rock sites have also been modified by and for centuries as was used by several civilizations through the eras. A few monuments are in danger including the El Nazar, and Meryemana which is also famous for Virgin Mary churches. The site is regularly visited by tourist so needs a constant maintenance.

The park is included in the World heritage as it full fills several criteria including unique artistic achievement to post radical Byzantine art period, the vestiges of disappeared civilizations of 4th century and the demonstration of the erosion forces which changed the Goreme Valley and its nearby areas and networked with the cultural components of landscape. The visit to this landscape can change the profound vision of the visitor which educates and adds a lot to the historic knowledge and along with that makes one wonder over the natural beauty.
