Huge Devetashka Cave – Bulgaria

This Massive Devetashka Cave is located in the northwest side of Lovech in Bulgaria. It is a massive attractive cave. It has two galleries, 11 lakes and 14 springs. You can find lovely stalactites and pillars, rivulets, majestic natural domes and arches. The entry fee is BGN 2 (1 EUR) and there are some discounts for groups above 15 visitors, students and pensioners enter for free. The Cave can only be access by car; you will have to park just after the bridge of the Devetaki village, about 85 km from Veliko Turnovo and 20 km from Lovech. After parking your car, follow the signs and walk down the trail for about one kilometre from Maarta Waterfall. You will see the entrance of the Devetashka Cave, One of the Biggest Caves in Bulgaria and the home of more than 30,000 bats.

The cave is not easy to spot from the road, but when you get inside you get surprized that how big the cave actually is. The falling rays of the Sun that come through the holes in the cave’s ceiling make it even more beautiful. Make sure you wear the proper shoes and clothes, remember the temperatures in the caves can go much lower than on the outside. All spots of the Devetashka Cave can’t be reached by regular tourists; some require special expertise along with caving and sailing equipment. If you decide to stay overnight, the area offers some great options for small family-run B&BS along the Osam River. Otherwise, you can check in a hotel in Lovech, which is the closest (20 km) nearby bigger town and provides additional sights and attractions and a bigger choice of dining options.
