The construction of this Turauda Castle took three centuries starting from 13th century and ending in 16th century. The medieval period was the time of Albert, Archbishop of Riga who started its construction for multiple purposes. The castle when first built was named Fredeland (Land of peace). Local people then replaced its name Fredeland by Turaida, which has survived till now.
The huge building with neatly aliened walls took the glory to another level. The sky reaching tower surrounded by clouds seems to be floating. The sight is worth watching and fairy-tale like.
