Vienna Music Guide – Best Places to Visit

The old city charm and picturesque buildings make Vienna one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Strolling in front of the Schonbrunn Palace or St. Stephen’s Cathedral is awe-inspiring, but the music of Vienna is the heartbeat of the city.

Live Music

Vienna music venues are as numerous as they are brilliant. One of the best places to start off a night of music is Flex. Offering eclectic bands and an extremely casual atmosphere, Flex has everything from underground rock to electro.

Szene Wien is a fantastic venue for rock and modern alternative bands, as well as some folk and indie artists. Chelsea is the haven for the underground alternative scene in Vienna, while the room itself reminds one of a college dorm room. The music is certainly a once in a lifetime experience. Arenaand Loft are also great places to experience a wide variety of musical genres.
The fast pace gigs in Vienna are certainly slowed to a smooth halt in the many jazz venues of the city.Porgy & Bess has an old school Sinatra vibe to it as you enter the doors, with small tables and gallery seating surrounding the large stage set for jazz. Porgy’s offers world music and other genres also, so if it’s just some sweet jazz you’re after, Jazzland is the place for you. This venue is in a cellar under St. Ruprecht’s Church and has hosted some amazing jazz legends.

Chaya Fuera is a popular and ever morphing hot spot. This trendy location offers live music throughout the week and is home to a thriving nightclub on the weekend.

Nightclubs

Nightclubs in Vienna are in a league of their own. Grelle Forelle is a great way to start of the night. With techno beats and a closing time of 6AM, Grelle Forelle has enough space and attitude to keep you dancing!
Viper Room is literally an underground club, residing two levels underneath the surface of the city. The DJ lineup is incredible, mixing everything from metal to house.
Praterdome and Passage are two of Vienna’s largest clubs. Praterdome boasts an interior reminiscent of the inside of King Arthur’s castle, while Passage is a more upscale, crème de la crème trendy spot.

Music Festivals and Concerts

Vienna music festivals provide adventurers with a vast assortment of music. The Vienna Festivalincludes everything from opera and theater, to live performance and exhibitions. The festival takes place from the middle of May until the middle of June.
