Valley of the Moon – the Most Unearthly Place in Argentina

Valley of the Moon – the Most Unearthly Place in Argentina
Valle de la Luna (Valley of the Moon), Ischigualasto Provincial Park, San Juan Province, Argentina. The place where „the moon sets“ definitely looks like from a different planet. Unsurprisingly the scientists have found fossils of various dinosaur species, buried here tens of millions of years ago. The park was even included in UNESCO’s World Heritage list.
At the entrance of the park visitors can observe the replicas of the fossils. The visitors can climb Morado Mount from where an amazing panoramic views open. It is even possible to camp in this vast terrain. It is said that at night, in the moonlight, the site becomes even more dramatic when the gray sand looks like white and reminds the surface of the Moon.
Why to go there?
One of the most unique places on Earth.
When to go there?
All year round, but you might want to skip the rain season, which starts in summer.
How to get there?
Get to San Juan or La Rioja by car or fly to the local airports from Buenos Aires. Then drive to the park by bus or car.
