The top tourist attractions in Chad are some of the most unexplored places on earth. For years, political turmoil has prevented travelers from going there. What many people don’t know is just how interesting Chad’s attractions are. The following list of sights to see should give you of what you’ve been missing in Chad.
1. Zakouma National Park
The national park covers 1,200 square miles of grasslands that turn into swamps and wetlands during rainy season. At first glance, nothing seems special about it but wait until you start seeing animals! African wildlife including elephants, lions, and giraffes can be seen throughout Zakouma National Park though you may need the the assistance of an experienced guide.
2. N’djamena
The city is the economic center of Chad, being the site of its cattle, cotton, and fishing industries. N’djamena also happens to be the capital and only large city in Chad. While most of the city was destroyed by the civil war of 1979, some of its attractions are still intact. Among the sights to see here are some mosques, cathedrals, and the Chad National Museum which chronicles the country’s history.
3. Lake Chad
The lake is really a massive inland sea within Chad but is also bordered by other African nations including Cameroon, Niger, and Nigeria. It is located 70 miles from the capital of N’djamena and is one of the top tourist attractions in Chad. The area provides opportunities for sightseeing wildlife such as hippos, crocodiles, and waterfowls. Camping is also something you can do in Bol, a small town with its own airstrip. Fish thrive in the lake and tiny fishing villages are there to take advantage of them for livelihood.

4. Ennedi Desert
The desert is a three-day trip from N’djamena and can only be reached with a 4WD. Beautiful landscapes and numerous adventures await you there, making the long trip worth it. Natural rock formations, ancient rock art, and sand cathedrals are among the sights you’ll see in Ennedi Desert.
5. Tibesti Mountains
The 300-mile mountain range is home to Emi Koussi, the highest peak in the Sahara Desert. Emi Koussi is an 11,200-ft volcano. Nomadic tribes from Daza and Teda inhabit the area, adding cultural experiences to anyone who visits them.
