Lake Superior, Apostle Islands, Wisconsin, USA. As the temperatures have dropped immensely this year in USA, the Lake Superior has frozen, thus allowing to walk on its surface and reach the ice caves on the Apostle Islands. Last time it was covered in ice to such extent was five years ago.
The islands are frozen inside out: from the huge ice structures covering the cliffs, to the frozen waterfalls inside the caves. About 10 000 people have visited the caves in two weeks after The National Park Service opened the site.
Why to go there?
A very rare opportunity to see the beautiful frozen caves.
When to go there?
As soon as possible – the caves will probably be open until the end of the month, although it depends on the weather.
