The colorfulness and cheerfulness of Copenhagen is intoxicating. The beauty and history of this fair city is matched only by the awesomeness of it’s many music venues. This Copenhagen music guide will show you the very best places for live music, the best nightclubs and the top festivals and concerts.
Live Music
The rush of a fantastic concert can be found throughout Copenhagen. One of the best places to start off your musical experience in Copenhagen is at Loppen. It has a super laid back ambiance mixed in with big names like Smashing Pumpkins, The Naked and Famous, Animal Collective and many more.KB18 and Stengade are both incredible spots to see punk rock, indie, pop, techno and alternative bands.
Jazzhus Montmartre is an essential part of Copenhagen music venues. Montmartre regularly showcases some of Europe’s most amazing jazz musicians along with the renowned Copenhagen Jazzhouse. If slow jazz and blues are your groove, then Mojo Blues Bar is a great place to hear jazz and blues every night of the week. Mojo Blues turns into a dance club once the live music ends and DJs spin the night away.
Nightclubs
Denmark’s capital shines brilliantly during the day, but the nightlife is what makes the city truly glisten.Culture Box is one of Copenhagen’s most celebrated nightclubs. Between the three sections, White Box, Red Box and Black Box, there is something at Culture Box for everyone.
The more exclusive club goers will enjoy both HIVE and KB3. HIVE not only has secret tables and a “dungeon” area, but some of the best DJs for younger crowds. KB3, though not as selective as HIVE, is one of the most popular clubs in the city. With a practically giant space, KB3 has an extremely large bar that serves great cocktails and can hold up to 800 people!
KB3
The Jane and Jolene are two very different styles of the sought after chill club. Jolene is kind of a ruckus, but offers beer from the bottle, shabby-chic decor, and practically electric DJ’s. The Jane however is a more 1950’s and 1960’s style cocktail lounge, provoking thoughts of long lost glamour and prestige.
Varying DJs every weekend, plush sofas and an extremely chilled atmosphere make Zefside Bar the perfect place to hangout after a long day of adventures.
Music Festivals and Concerts
Copenhagen music festivals are diverse and thrilling. 30km to the west of Copenhagen is the Roskilde Festival, Denmark’s largest music event. Attracting acts from around the world, Summer 2014 the event will be home to Arctic Monkeys, Drake, Stevie Wonder, Deftones, The Rolling Stones, Outkast and many more fantastic acts!
Roskilde Festival
Copenhagen Distortion and STRØM are two electronic music festivals. Copenhagen Distortion celebrates the nightlife of the city with a massive club party, while STRØM is a more selective event, held in venues across the city.
Copenhagen Jazz Festival and Vinter Jazz (Winter Jazz Festival) are the city’s incredible jazz festivals. Vinter Jazz takes place near the end of January and holds its programs at various jazz clubs throughout the area. During the Copenhagen Jazz Festival A List international jazz performers can be heard from practically every inch of Copenhagen.
Concerts featuring Robbie Williams, Britney Spears, or Justin Timberlake and other well-known musicians will be found at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen. Vega houses big names in indie, rock, and many other fantastic genres in its smaller, yet homier venue.
