ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA

The top tourist attractions in Antigua and Barbuda typify a modern-day destination in the Caribbean. Antigua boasts white sand beaches and has ample tourism-based facilities. Barbuda has fewer infrastructure but is nonetheless inviting. A trip to the islands will satisfy any traveler’s tropical craving, especially one who has taste for the Caribbean.

St. John

The town is rarely visited by tourists and this isn’t without reason. Its streets are usually crowded by cars and many of its old creole buildings were replaced by newer ones. Despite this, St. John is still worth a visit as it is home to the Antigua and Barbuda Museum. The museum details the islands’ history and has exhibits of ancient and colonial artifacts as well as some modern memorabilia.

Cades

The exposed coral reef is one of the top tourist attractions in Antigua and Barbuda. Snorkeling tours are of the area are possible. Further south from Cades, you can board a yacth at Falmouth Harbour and explore coves on the east.

English Harbour

It was previously the main naval base of Britain. During its heyday, it was one of the most heavily defended harbors in the world. At its heart was the Georgian Naval Dockyard which was restored and renamed Nelson’s Dockyard after Horatio Nelson.

Today, the atmosphere of the harbour is exceptional. As the center of modern-day sailing in the country, expect to see yachts docked, some sailors walking, and a lot of drinking in the sunset. There’s a museum with a separate section made especially for children, a bar and restaurant, and a few hotels in the area. The hillsides on its backdrop are filled with stone fortifications from the past.

Barbuda

The sister island of Antigua has fewer attractions but is still worth a day trip. Its main attraction is the lagoon bordered by gorgeous white sand. It’s part of the top tourist attractions in Antigua and Barbuda. Frigate birds nest in the area and if you’re lucky, you can hear males cry out with their scarlet gullets so they can attract females. If you want to stay, there are some hotels just outside the town of Codrington.
