This Magnificent Moraine Lake is a glacially-fed lake located in Banff National Park. The Lake is 14 kilometres outside the Village of Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. It is situated in the middle of Valley of the Ten Peaks, and it has an elevation of approximately 6,183 feet.
The Lake remains frozen into the month of June and does not grasp its crest until mid to late June. Once the glacier water starts to run it brings with it rock flour or silt. This is when the light reflects off to give the lake its spectacular deep blue colour. There are also some trails around the lake for casual walks and strenuous hikes. Due to bear movements some of the trails have seasonal limits to maximize safety. Hikers must travel in a tight group of five or more. Sometimes trails may be closed off completely. It is always best to check ahead with Parks Canada for the existing trail conditions.
This greatly photographed lake deserves its world famous reputation. The colours redirected in the lake surface are unbelievable and its location in the quiet valley of the Ten Peaks make this an perfect spot for anyone seeking to be at one with nature and outflow the bundle and bustle of everyday life. The setting of this lake is a photographer’s heaven and the difficulty knows when to stop clicking away.
