BERGEN -> MYRDAL -> FLAM
Pretty straightforward right? Tickets can be purchased on the official train company website – www.nsb.no/en/ (select your language if you don’t want English) and there is a little upgrade you can pay (if you want) for the Bergen to Myrdal route – it’s about £9/$14 per person (included newspapers, teas and coffees and lots more room) and it’s sooooooo worth it! We did the journey back without the upgrade and even though the trains are really comfy and by far more spacious than the UK trains, I most certain wished we’d shelled out for the upgrade (even for the tea alone – I was looking forward to a nice cuppa).
The route from Flam to Myrdal is also quite scenic and arriving in snow covered Myrdal made me understand why lots of people boarded the train with ski gear! The ‘skiing place’ is probably slightly further out than Myrdal but everyone seemed excitedly looking forward to skiing (which, seeing as it was around 7am in the morning, says a lot about how good the skiing here must be). Again, lucky Norwegians don’t have to far for a ski weekend! Another huge perk of living in (or visiting) Bergen! A little FYI, Myrdal is high up in the mountain and Flam is in the valleys at the start of the Fjords hence why everything is covered in snow in Myrdal and really nice, warm and green in Flam!
Enough rambling from my end, I’m gonna show you the photos I took along the way from Bergen to Flam! I’ll do the entire return journey and let you know which leg of the journey it was… starting with the Bergen to Myrdal route (which we were all kinda sleepy on after an amazing night out in Bergen – Bergensers sure do know how to have fun!) If you want more details about the route or even just about things to do in Flam, check out the official Flam website – they’re got oodles of information and good tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your stay. Now on with the pictures!
