THE SCENIC CLIFFS OF TROLLTUNGA, NORWAY

We have visited some of the scenic destinations of Norway in our earlier posts. Today we go to the scenic cliffs of Trolltunga, which is situated at a whopping 1100 meters above the sea level. It gracefully hovers at a height of 700 meters over Lake Ringedalsvatnet and offers some  breathtaking views. It is a giant slab or rock that protrudes from the cliffs and has some mystical appeal to it. Thousands of tourists are attracted to this stunning European destination where earth meets the heaven in a surreal way.

Activities
Hiking is the main activity of Trolltunga and good sturdy hiking boots are always recommended. Coming here prepared with the entire hiking package will definitely payoff. Maps, food, drinks, clothing, compass are a few essentials. Nature based activities are always a risky proposition make sure you are in good shape before you attempt hike here.
Also the surrounding areas of Trolltunga offer various other interesting activities like glacial walking paths, golfing, mountain climbing and shopping
Visiting and hiking season
Since the main attraction of this wonderful place can only be obtained through a 4 hour hike, it is best that one visits Trolltunga during its best seasons. The months from mid-June offer a good start for the trekking season, but majorly depend of how and when the ice melts in the mountains. The hiking season ends in the early days on October.
How to reach
Trolltunga is situated in Norwegian Fjords in Odda. One can drive from Odda toTyssedal from route 13 to reach Tyssedal. Then follow the signs and direction to Skjeggedal. After parking in Skjeggedal the hike begins at the start of the funicular MÃ¥gelibanen in Skjeggedal. This hike takes about 4 to 5 hours one way to Trolltunga.
Accommodation
There are many cabins available if one chooses to have a short commute from Trolltunga. Reinaskorsbu is a 6 bed cabins owned by theDNT or Norwegian Trekking Association and is located in close proximity of Trolltunga. Tourists can also visit Odda. Although bringing your own tent is highly recommend.
