SUOMENLINNA FORTRESS, FINLAND: A MUST VISIT ROYAL SITE

This 18th Century fortress called Suomenlinna is a tourist attraction one should not miss while visiting Finland. Built during the Swedish era, this fortress served as a Maritme fortress and was a base for fleets. It is a UNESCO world heritage site now. When the Russians ruled Finland, the fortress was extended towards the sea  and hence it is larger now than the original site. Once Finland became independent from the Russian rule, the fortress turned into a submarine base, Valmet shipyard and a coastal artillery regiment. Currently this is a hot tourist destination of Finland.
