1. BURANO ISLAND, ITALY
Burano is famous for its vivid bright colors painted on houses and handmade lace. Houses were painted in the past in different colors in order to distinguish them from each other.
Residents of Burano are extremely friendly – no doubt to some extent because they have always been relying on themselves for all their needs.
In the maze of local streets, you can find a nice little yard. Colorful houses, flowered balconies and courtyards, all this makes you lose contact with reality at times and time. The town seems like a fairy tale. Authentic lace from Burano would cost you a fortune – you have to remember that a single piece of table cloth may take 3 years to stitch.

2. CINQUE TERRE, ITALY
Dubbed “The Five Lands” Cinque Terre is a rugged portion of coast along the southern end of the Italian Riviera. It comprises five colorful villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. La Spezia is the gateway to Cinque terre which serves as a good launching point to visiting the coastal communes.
3. NYHAVN, DENMARK
Nyhavn is a 17th century waterfront, canal and entertainment district in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is lined by brightly coloured 17th and early 18th century townhouses and bars, cafes and restaurants. Serving as a “heritage harbour”, the canal has many historical wooden ships.
4. MENTON, FRANCE
When heading down the coast from Nice towards Italy, the last town you will encounter before crossing the border is beautiful Menton. Located in a stunning setting between the Mediterranean and the Southern Alps, the town has a distinct subtropical microclimate that keeps it warm and sunny most of the year and the wonderful old world atmosphere that still pervades the place makes it well worth a stopover if you are heading to Italy.
5. COSTA NOVA, PORTUGAL
Costa Nova is a very peculiar beach in Centro de Portugal, easily recognized by its gorgeous striped houses. Originaly built to store the fishermen’s gear, these constructions have been converted into charming summer residences.
6. PROCIDA, ITALY
Procida is one of the Flegrean Islands off the coast of Naples in southern Italy. The island is between Cape Miseno and the island of Ischia. With its tiny satellite island of Vivara, it is a comune of the Metropolitan City of Naples, in the region of Campania. Procida’s charm has led to it featuring in a number of films including the classic Il Postino and The Talented Mr Ripley
7. REYKJAVIK, ICELAND
Reykjavík is the capital and largest city of Iceland. It makes it the world’s northernmost capital of a sovereign state and a popular tourist destination. It’s Iceland’s only city. Really, even calling it a “city” feels like an affront to its spirit. Despite claiming two-thirds of the country’s total population, Reykjavík is closer to an overgrown village than a major European capital.
8. GIRONA, SPAIN
Located in the Costa Brava region of Spain just north of Barcelona, this region of Spain is not as popular as Costa del Sol or islands like Ibiza, which is good and bad. Good because there aren’t that many tourists here and it’s relatively quiet.
9. COLMAR,FRANCE
Founded in the 9th century, Colmar is the capital of central Alsace. The town is situated along the Alsatian Wine Route and considers itself to be the “capital of Alsatian wine”. Little Venice name was given to the course of the Lauch in Colmar which probably came from the original line of the houses on both sides of the river.
10. SIGHISOARA, ROMANIA
One of the things you will immediately notice about walking the streets of Sighisoara is the colours – practically every other building is painted a bright pastel colour, and it really brings a vibrancy to the town.
As such, the whole of Sighisoara was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999, and almost every third building is listed as a protected site.
11. WROCLAW POLAND
Wroclaw is like a combination of all the things that make Poland great – a huge (albeit beautifully rebuilt) old town, one of the largest and most breathtaking market squares in Europe, over 100 bridges spanning 13 islands along the Vistula River, beautiful green spaces intermixed with street art, and so much cheap food and beer it makes you want to stay for weeks.
