10. Khaju Bridge, Iran

Opening our list is the Khaju Bridge in Isfahan, Iran. This amazing architectural art has 23 arches, its length is 105 meters and it was built in the 1650s by Shah Abbas II. The bridge also serves as a weir with gates under the arches. When the gates are closed, the water level is raised and irrigates the gardens near the Zayandeh River.

9. West Montrose Covered Bridge, Canada

The West Montrose Covered Bridge is the last wooden covered bridge in Ontario, Canada. Covered bridges are timber-truss which their roof and siding create an enclosure for protecting the wooden structure from weather harms, and there are about 1,600 of those all over the world. The “Kissing Bridge”, as it’s known locally, was built in 1880 over the Grand River, and has a unique look that preserved nicely over the years.

Connecting Brooklyn and Staten Island in New York City, the Verrazano-Narrows suspension bridge establishes a critical link both in local and regional highway systems. The bridge has a central span of 1,298 meters and at its completion time, in 1964, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world.

The Rode Burg, meaning “The Red Bridge”, is very distinctive bridge with a bizarre shape and even more bizarre speculative symbolism. Some suggest that the bridge’s shape reminds a woman’s pelvic area with straddle legs, and combined with its red color – they are symbolize the nearby red light district in Utrecht, where prostitutes are found on houseboats.

6. Millennium Bridge, UK

This steel suspension bridge was built, as implied by its name, in 2000. It was designed for pedestrians and cyclist which crossing the famous Thames River in London, and has won numerous prestigious awards for its peculiar structure. The bridge tilts 40 degrees to allow ships and boats to get through, and at night it exhibits colored lights.

The Ponte Vecchio is much more than just a beautiful bridge – it is also a street and a lively marketplace, it is known as a landmark of Florence, Italy, and has a rich history. Actually, the bridge we know today was built over Arno River in 1345, during the medieval, and the original Ponte Vecchio was mentioned in historical documents already in 993.

4. Chengyang “Wind and Rain” Bridge, China

The Wind and Rain bridges were built by the Dong people – a small ethnic group – and were called so due to their ability not only let people cross the river, but also protect them from the elements. The Chengyang Bridge is the largest and most magnificent of its type. It’s about 100 years old, spanning over the Linxi River and like all Wind and Rain bridges – it was built without a single nail.

The Bridge of Sighs, located across the Rio di Palazzo, was connecting the Doge’s prison to the interrogation room in the main palace. It has got its name in the 19th century by Lord Byron (a famous poet at that time), when legend has it that the prisoners would sigh when they looked out through the stone-barred windows for their last sight of beautiful Venice.

Officially known as High Bridge, the Python Bridge spans canal of 90 meters between Sporenburg and Borneo Island in Amsterdam, Holland. It has an incredible long, curved, bright red shape, which designed by the architect Adriaan Geuze and earned him the International Footbridge Award in 2002

The Tower Bridge in London considered these days as one of the most beautiful bridges in the world and even the most beautiful one. Funny thing that at the beginning of the 20th century it was criticized for its “tawdry and pretentious” look, and someone even said it was the most absurd structure which was ever “thrown across a strategic river”.
