Wanaka, Otago, New Zealand. The tourism is growing in this beautiful resort town in the South Island. Wanaka has both – summer and winter activities. And keep in mind that it is spring now in New Zealand, so summer is the upcoming season in this part of the world.
Although Lake Wanaka – the town defining site – covers an area of 192 km2 (74 sq mi), it is only the fourth biggest lake in New Zealand. However, the lake and the surroundings are gorgeous. Its Maori name was given after a tribal chief and means the place of Anaka. Rippon Winery, which is said to be the most photographed winery in the world, is found on the lake’s coastline and produces world-class wine.
Wanaka has the best skiing and snowboarding resorts in the country, which is famous for its Alps and fiords. The best time to go skiing in the four world-class resorts is from June to October, when the peaks are covered in a thick layer of snow. The resorts cater for all levels: from kids and beginners to professionals.
During the warm season visitors can go hiking, mountain biking or mountaineering in Mount Aspiring National Park. Fishing, paragliding, kayaking, rafting and jetboating in Lake Wanaka are also very popular activities. There are many things to do and see in Wanaka – the beautiful town of New Zealand.
