The Lotus Temple – a Blossom of Inspiring Architecture in India
The Lotus Temple, New Delhi, India. The expressionist temple was completed in 1986 and had become the most popular attraction in the city. It is a Bahá’í House of Worship, meaning that people of all religions are welcome to worship God, since the doctrine declares Oneness of Religions.
The intricate architecture features marble petals, that form a shape of a lotus flower. Lotus has a special significance in Asian culture, representing clarity and spirituality. Nine blue ponds surround the unfolding blossom. The Lotus Temple is one of the most visited buildings in the world, attracting millions of tourists each year.
Why to go there?
A popular attraction; guided tours, information center and other tourist facilities are available.
When to go there?
All year round. The temple is closed on Mondays.
How to get there?
By metro from the city and then by an autorickshaw from the metro station. Parking is free.
