SHANGRI-LA DUBAI

It is no secret that Dubai has emerged as the international business hub in the middle east. Foreigners flock to the city to complete deals, attend conferences, and all the while discover this eclectic city for themselves. The Shangri-La Dubai has emerged as one of the key hotels for business travelers, as it offers quite a different approach to its’ contenders.
The Shangri-La Dubai is situated in the heart of Dubai, amidst a plethora of skyscrapers and highways, and still only a short 3-4 minute drive to the Dubai Mall. At first glance, the hotel presents itself as a modern and contemporary business hotel – but during my stay here I discovered a  side of the hotel that goes much deeper than a strategically located skyscraper with a loyal clientele.
Shangri La DubaiAs soon as I exited the chauffeured car I was greeted by a team of staff to welcome me to the hotel, take care of my baggage, and escort me to the check-in desk. The formalities were promptly taken care of, as we were to be staying in a Horizon Suite, meaning we had immediate access to theHorizon Club Lounge. I had arrived at 7:30am, so I certainly wasn’t expecting to check-in for quite some time, let alone be escorted to the club lounge to enjoy the buffet breakfast while I waited for my room to be ready. After ordering Eggs Benedict and indulging in some of the offerings, I was informed by staff that my room was ready and that I could check in early. I was incredibly impressed by this level of service, as staff were willing to go out of their way to ensure I was comfortable despite having arrived much earlier than check-in time.
My suite was exceptionally large and had an unbeatable view of the city of Dubai, especially in the evening when the city comes to life. Horizon Club guests can also enjoy the view from outside on the balcony of the 42nd floor, where the club gym and pool are located and offered exclusively to Horizon Club guests. Complimentary cold beverages are also offered to Horizon Club guests 24/7, as well as a full afternoon tea and canapes alongside one alcoholic beverage between 5-7pm.
However guests can also enjoy the other amenities of the hotel at their own leisure – including a large outdoor pool, larger gym facilities, and bigger buffet breakfast with more variety. In fact, the breakfast buffet on the ground floor offers a much better selection and I would recommend you forgo the luxury of the private club area for breakfast, and instead head downstairs.
There are a number of restaurants offering various cuisines at the hotel, which ensures all guests are well catered for. However if you are visiting Dubai to see the sites and enjoy the city, it’s just a short 3-4 minute cab ride downtown, which will only set you back a few dollars.
