Argentina has been in a bit of despair for the past couple of days. They have lost to Germany. Emotions were great and so was the despair. In a true lation way the nation mourned the defeat. As much as I totally understand them, there's one thing I still need to say. Argentinians! Consider yourself lucky anyway. You may not have won this game but you have won so much more – your amazing country. Not that Germany is hidious or anything. But if I had to choose honestly, I would definitely rather spend my next journey in the land of gauchos than in the land of currywurst.
After all the pain and sorrow of the battle lost will wash away, you will have some amazing things to look at, to enjoy and to taste. So I give you five reasons to be happy to be living and being an Argentinian.
YOU'VE GOT PATAGONIA
This amazing region located at the southern end of South America, shared by Argentina and Chile comprises the southern section of the Andes mountains as well as the deserts, steppes and grasslands east of this southern portion of the Andes. It is picturesque and famous for its amazing lookouts. Originally a remote backpacking destination, the region has attracted increasing numbers of upmarket visitors, cruise passengers rounding Cape Horn or visiting Antarctica, and adventure and activity holiday-makers. Principal tourist attractions include the Perito Moreno glacier, the Valdés Peninsula, the Argentine Lake District and Ushuaia and Tierra del Fuego. And Argentinians can visit it anytime they really want, without the trouble of amazingly long journeys.
YOU'VE GOT ARGENTINIAN BEEF
Argentina has the world's highest consumption rate of beef, at 65 kg a year per capita. They love it and know it well. What makes Argentine steaks so tasty? Many beef producers in Argentina still use the older methods of pasture and grass feeding their cows. This is a more expensive process, but the cows are healthier and, so it is said, the beef tastier. There is a movement in Argentina towards feeding lots and grain feeding, so you better get on down to an Argentine parilla (steakhouse) while the getting is good! Beef! That's what’s for dinner! And in Argentina you get the best beef of all!
YOU'VE GOT BUENOS AIRES
Legendary Buenos Aires is the capital and largest city of Argentina, and the second-largest metropolitan area in South America, after Greater São Paulo. And you do not have to be Evita's fan to enjoy the amazing beauty of this third largest conurbation in latin America. The history, the atmosphere, the ambience and that tango! All is waiting out there for you at Rio de la Plata. Buenos Aires is a top tourist destination, and is known for its European-style architecture and rich cultural life, with the highest concentration of theatres in the world. So Argentinians consider yourself lucky!
YOU'VE GOT GAUCHO CULTURE
Gaucho are residents of the South American pampas, Gran Chaco, or Patagonian grasslands, found principally in parts of Argentina, Southern Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, eastern and southern Bolivia and Southern Chile. The culture itself is quite legendary and sometimes it may not be easy to separate the myth from the truth, but still it is more fascinating than the globalised boredom of unification. Gaucho is an equivalent of the North American "cowboy". The gaucho plays an important symbolic role in the nationalist feelings of this region, especially that of Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Gauchos are proud, brave and free. So Argentinians should consider themselves lucky, no matter what.
YOU'VE GOT GLACIERS NATIONAL PARK
In 1981 the UNESCO World Heritage Foundation inducted Glaciers National Park as one of its sites. The glacial activities in the park are mainly seen around two lakes, Argentino and Viedma. At these lakes you can see spectacular shows of glaciers dumping chunks of ice into the chilly glacial waters below. The park is located in the area known as Austral Andes in Argentina, on the Chilean border. You can take horse rides through the natural beauty or relax at estancias (ranches) near by.
