Lets visit another holiday island today. This one is the location of the latest X-Men movie, ‘X-Men First Class’ also, where we finds the earlier days of Magneto and Prof.Xavier. Jekyll Island is an island off the coast of the U.S. state of Georgia, in Glynn County. It is one of the Sea Islands and one of the Golden Isles of Georgia. In 1886, Jekyll Island was purchased to become an exclusive winter retreat for America’s most elite families, known as the Jekyll Island Club. For more than half a century, the nation’s leading families, including the Rockefellers, Morgans, Pulitzers, and Goulds, came to Jekyll Island to secure an escape. In X-Men First Class, Jekyll Island which is said to serve as the backdrop for Muir island, a fictional island in Scotland.

The island is also full of wildlife, consisting of many different mammals, reptiles and birds living and breeding in the island’s inland marshes.At Jekyll Island north end beach animals such as porpoises, egrets, periwinkle snails, fiddler crabs and herons can be seen from this unique area.The natural environment of Jekyll Island is a magnolia-lined oak forest canopy with a forest floor dominated by palmettos and scruff oaks.  Animals found on the island include white-tail deer, raccoons, rabbits and squirrels.  The tidal creeks and streams of the salt marsh provide a variety of resources, including seasonal fish and shell fish.

Getting there

Just a short 30-minute drive, Brunswick golden isles airport (BQK) is served by regular daily flights of Atlantic Southeast Airlines (ASA/Delta Connection) out of Atlanta (ATL). Rental cars and hotel shuttles are available. International airports in savannah (SAV) and Jacksonville (JAX) are a short 60-minute drive from Jekyll Island. Both airports offer rental car and limousine services. Private pilots may use the Jekyll island airport (09J).
