Pangong Tso lake is a long, narrow, brackish water lake spanning the Indian/Chinese border, in a high mountain valley in the upper drainage basin of the Indus river, at the east end of the Karakoram Range. Only the westernmost third of the lake lies in Indian Territory.
The journey fom Leh To Ladakh
The nearest Airport to Ladakh is Kushok Bakula Rinpoche Airport. There are daily flights connecting Leh to New Delhi. Leh is a tourist place where you can see tourists from across the globe. Leh acts as a single point destination for all the Leh Ladakh tourist points. You can get daily taxi trips from Leh to Ladakh, Khardungla Pass and other major tourist destinations. The journey from Leh To Ladakh about 200 km is a breath taking one giving you many remarkable views of Himalayas, Himalayan springs, Sindhu river and many Buddhist monasteries. The journey starts from an altitude of 1000 ft, Leh through Changla Pass 17590 Ft to Pangong lake of 14720 ft. It takes nearly 4 hrs to cover this distance through the winding mountain terrain.
The Pangong Tso lake
The first sight of the bluish green lake through the Himalayan mountain ranges is magical. Five rivers, fed by perennial springs and snow-melt, flow into the Indian portion of the lake; the outlet at the west end flows northwest into the Shyok river, a tributary of the Indus. There are some brackish to saline marshes near the western end, with adjacent wet meadows. Situated at an altitude of 4350 Mtrs. Pangong Lake lies in the north east of Leh. This famous blue brackish Lake of Pangong is 5/ 6 Kms wide and over 144 Kms long with half of it running the other side of the Indo-China boarder. The mountains around the Lake are of various shape and colors.

How to reach
The overland approach to Ladakh from Kashmir Valley via Kargil is approx. 434 Km, which remains open for traffic from early June to November. The most dramatic part of this road journey is the ascent up the 11,500 feet / 3,505 m high Zoji-La, the pass in the Great Himalayan Wall that serves as the gateway to Ladakh.The J & K State Road Transport Corporation (J&K SRTC) operates regular Deluxe and Ordinary bus services between Srinagar and Leh on this route with an overnight halt at Kargil. Taxis (cars and jeeps) are also available at Srinagar for the journey. Groups can charter Deluxe and A-class buses for Leh, Kargil or Padum (Zangskar) from the J & K SRTC at Srinagar.
