When I think of San Francisco, the first thing that comes to mind is The Golden Gate Bridge. It is the most photographed bridge on the planet and the city’s most famous sight. So we thought that we better feature it with a photograph of our own. We were very lucky to view this beauty on a sunny day. We only had three days in San Francisco and although it was quite sunny downtown, the Golden Gate Bridge tends to often be shrouded in cloud. We attempted to see the bridge on four different occasions. Twice on our big red bus tour – once in the morning and then again in the afternoon but only saw fog. We tried again when we took a drive out for sunset but it started raining by the time we reached the view point, fourth times a charm and we had some luck on our last attempt at mid afternoon.

We arrived just in time. We could see the clouds moving in quickly and lucked out with a perfect parking spot right in front of the Warming Hut Cafe located on Marine Drive. It has stunning views of the bridge and is an amazing place to people watch. Dave snapped photos feverishly for about 15 minutes before the bad weather. He managed to get a cloudless sky from his vantage point on the rocks while a crowd formed behind him trying to take the same shot he was doing. It seemed that everyone thought he was on a professional photo shoot so they followed his lead and joined in on the action.
Marine Drive is located on the San Francisco side of the Golden Gate Bridge. Even though it was August, the wind was fierce and there was a chill in the air. It’s a nice break from the cold to go into the Warming Hut Café for a coffee and a browse for souvenirs.
