This formation is situated amidst the famous Elbe Sandstone Mountains in Germany. Its height reaches a whopping 305 meters above sea level. These jagged rocks were formed over a million years ago by the contentious erosion by flowing water. These rock formations are located near Rathen, close to Pirna which is the southeast part of the Dresden city near the border regions. This bridge is one of the chief landmarks of the Saxon Switzerland National Park. These rocks also serve as a major tourist attraction mainly for climbing and hiking for tourists across the world.
For over 200 years Bastei has been a tourist attraction. A wooden bridge was built on the rocks in the years 1824. This bridge served as a link that connected several rocks for its visitors. The present day Bastei Bridge, which is made up of sandstone was replaced in the years 1851.
