10. Bamboo Forest, Kyoto, Japan
Located in Arashiyama, which is packed with tourist attractions, bamboo forest is one of the most favorite and popular recreation area. The hiking trails in the forest, surrounded with steep bamboos provide a quiet and relaxing stroll like nowhere else.
How to get there?
Get there by train using a Sagano Line. Get around by bike – rent one in the train station.
9. The Dark Hedges, Northern Ireland
The road of trees, planted in the 18th century by the Stuart family, looks like from a fairy tale. Today the winding branches create an eerie, but very impressive tunnel. Locals say that the Dark Hedges are haunted – a wraith of the Grey Lady appears at dusk.
How to get there?
Drive about 50 miles northwest from Belfast. The Dark Hedges stretch along Bregagh Road.
8. Heerstrasse, Bonn, Germany
Every spring, usually in April, the street in Bonn is booming in bloom. Also known as the Cherry Blossom Avenue, Heerstrasse became a worldwide sensation after these stunning pictures went viral online.
How to get there?
Easy access to Bonn by train or bus. The city is situated close to Düsseldorf and Cologne.
7. Yvoire, Rhône-Alpes, France
Sprawled on the shores of Lake Geneva, Yvoire is often referred to as the most beautiful village in France. Established in the 14th century the village features historic architecture and those narrow streets offer a very nice stroll.
How to get there?
Take the D25 road by car. Get there by boat from Evian and Thonon-les-Bains.
6. The Nakasendo Highway, Japan
The historic road, which links Kyoto and Edo (modern Tokyo), was built in the 17th century and stretched for 534 km (332 mi). Some parts remain in their original form, with stone paving, others are rebuild and stretch through the picturesque sites, providing a very nice hike.
How to get there?
Visitors can choose to hike seven routes, that are sprawled between Kyoto and Tokyo.
5. Rua Goncalo de Carvalho, Porto Alegre, Brazil
A 500 meters long street is covered in trees. From above all you can see is a green foliage of a more than a hundred Rosewood trees planted in the 1930s. It is the first urban site in Latin America to be declared as Heritage Environment site, after some businessmen were planning to cut off some of the trees.
When to go there?
The foliage is lush during the Brazilian summer – from December to March.
4. Shanghai Highways, Shanghai, China
These intertwining elevated highways might be the most impressive in the world. Especially at night when they get illuminated, overlooking the skyscrapers in the Pudong district. A ride on these highways definitely feels like a futuristic trip.
How to get there?
Pudong has its own airport. Use public transport, taxi or rent a car to get around.
3. Spello, Umbria, Italy
The picturesque Medieval village has a web of narrow streets. Tourists love to get lost in them, while having a romantic stroll and admiring historic architecture. In spring and summer these streets get inundated with colorful and fragrant flowers, thus making it even more so enticing.
How to get there?
Get a train from Rome, Florence or Perugia. Get a taxi from Perugia’s airport, which is 30 km (18 mi) away.

Founded in the 16th century, Old San Juan is the oldest settlement in Puerto Rico. It features various sites that are protected by UNESCO. The vibrant houses and unique streets, made of the blue bricks, create a spectacular cityscape.

1. Avenue of the Baobabs, Menabe, Madagascar
It is no deluxe Parisian-style avenue, but something even better. The dirt road, that connects Morondava and Belon’i Tsiribihina, is surrounded with the giant trees. Although the road is bumpy, it still is the best place to see and admire Baobabs in Madagascar.
How to get there?
Travel there by plane or bus from Antananarivo.
