10 GREECE -KONITSA BRIDGE

This distinctive bridge was created in the year 1870 and it costed 120,000 Turkish lira. It has a maximum height of 65 ft (20 m) and it crosses the River Aoos. The Konitsa Bridge is considered to be unique in itself due to its construction and location. Ziagos Frontzos, a villager from Pyrsogianni is behind the construction of this bridge. The road built is very narrow, just 2 m wide. Like most of the Epirus bridges, it is curved upwards.


9SPAIN- ZARAGOZA, -PUENTE DE PIEDRA

The Puente de Piedra (“stone bridge” in spanish) crosses the river of Ebro in the Zaragoza city. The bridge was built during the period of 1401 to 1440, but it was destroyed partially in 1643 due to a flood. In 1659, the bridge was reconstructed. The Bridge is also famed as the “Bridge of Lions” because on the pillars of both the sides of the bridge, lion statues are built. The reconstruction of this bridge was of great economic importance for the development and progress of the country and all the regions.

The Stari Most is an arch stone bridge crossing the river of Neretva. This bridge is 95 ft (29 m) in length and is actually the reconstruction of the 16th century Ottoman bridge which  stood for 427 years from the year of 1566 to 1993. In 1993 it was destroyed in the war of Croak- Bosniak. In 2004, the reconstruction of the bridge was completed. It is among the most recognizable landmarks of the country and is also believed to be among the most exemplary masterpiece of Islamic architecture in the Balkan region.

The “New Bridge” or the Pont Neuf is the oldest bridge which still stands and crosses the Seine river in Paris. It joins the two banks of the Seine with the island in the middle of the river that used to be the heart of the Medieval Paris. This beautiful bridge is 232 metres (761 ft) long and is an arch stone bridge which is composed of 12 spans – five arches on one side and 7 on the other side of the island. The bridge was constructed during the time period of 1578-1607.

Charles Bridge is a famous bridge worldwide which crosses the river of Vltava. The construction of this stone Gothic bridge began in 1357 and ended in the early 15th century. Created in the 17th century, Khaju Bridge is the attractive bridge that crosses the clean Zayandeh River. Khaju bridge has twenty four arches and is 133 metres (436 ft) in length. Khaju Bridge has been described as the finest one in the province. This structure which architecturally functions as a bridge and weir but also serves as a primary building and place for public meetings.

Rialto Bridge is the oldest of the 4 bridges which span the Grand Canal in Venice. This bridge acts as a diving line between the two districts of San Polo and San Marco. The construction of the bridge was completed in 1591 after the replacement of the wooden bridge which collapsed in 1524. The beautiful stone bridge is considered as the icon of Venice and one of its most famous attractions and is always loaded with enthusiastic tourists.

This Bridge is a sandstone bridge, which is built in the year of 1851. This bridge is a replacement of the wooden bridge that was constructed in 1824. The length of the bridge is 350 ft (76.5 m) and has 7 arches with a depth of 131 ft ( 40 m). The bridge is constructed above the Elbe river in the mountains of the Elbe sandstone in Germany. Over 200 years, the Bastei bridge has been a major tourist attraction in Germany. The vistas and the rock formations have been a great inspiration to various popular artists, Casper Friedrich was one of them.


1RONDA, SPAIN -PUENTE NUEVO

The “new bridge” or the Puente Nuevo is not actually new. It was constructed during the time duration of 1751-1793 and crosses the Guadalevin river in the  120 m deep gorge of El Tajo. The bridge has a small chamber under the central arch which was used several purposes during those years which includes a prison.
