Vrachanski mountains - 10 places you must visit

We love to write about our mountains and appreciate very much this wealth country has. We love them at any time of year - whether when spring comes and turn the landscape from white winter picture to a beautiful spring fairytale. Summer does need words to be described - so beautiful and inviting. And winter - well, if you are not afraid of a little cold i can say that this is the most quiet and romantic time to be in the mountains..

Today I will tell you about Vratsa Balkan and why we love to visit it, besides the proximity to the capital and the beautiful winding road near the Iskar Gorge.

1. Waterfall Vratsa Skaklya - 142 meters high goals. He is the highest impermanent waterfall in Bulgaria. During the hot summer dry season, but you can enjoy it after a rain or in late spring when the waterflow is greatest. From the very top of the waterfall there's a splendid panorama of the city and its surroundings.

2. The Lakatnik rocks - so called because of the bend Iskar river makes at that place. It looks like an elbow. The rocks are an unique complex of rocky crests, slopes, pyramids and pillars, caves and karst springs. Here, close to the road, is the cave Dark Hole. The site offers a variety of activities - for lovers of rafting - quite extreme during high waters; a paradise for climbers - here mountaineering in Bulgaria was born in the early 20th century. Extremely impressive is the Alpine shelter Eyrie, which seems to be "landed" on the rocks and which can be reached only by climbing.

3. Cave Ledenika - thanks to an European project, the cave is extremely refined. It is divided into different rooms, the highest point to which you will get is called "Seventh Heaven" And if this is not reason enough to visit it ... Besides, only in this cave you can see the insect "Ledenikus "or" Svetlomrazets ".

4. Vratzata gorge - the highest on the Balkan Peninsula due to the fact that in the highest part this vertical and jagged cliffs reach 400 meters in height. A favorite spot for climbers - there are over 140 climbing routes with different levels of difficulty.

5. The ecotrail of Zgorigrad -  this amazingly picturesque eco trail follows the river Leva and is well secured. It passes through a very scenic area. Be sure, to wear comfortable shoes as there are places of steep sections, but overall it's a  light path, not particularly difficult. The very path leads to the waterfall Stone Pine.

6. Stone Pine Falls - one of the most impressive and beautiful waterfalls in Bulgaria. Situated near the village Zgorigrad and extends one of the tributaries of the River Leva. Down from 60 meters height. Stunning, isn't it!

7. Cherepish Monastery "Assumption" - According to the legend, the monastery has received its name from Whitish bones of fallen warriors left after the battle of King Shishman against the Ottoman invaders, held in the area. The monastery was destroyed and then rebuilt in the early 17th century with the help of Pimen Zografski. Later, the monastery shelters Sophronius of Vratsa. Cherepish monastery was visited by Ivan Vazov and right past him happen the events of the story "A bulgarian woman".

8. Ritlite - according to some sources, the emergence of these rock formations is probably 120 million years ago, when it was the bottom of the sea. In the past, the Romans used rock walls like-native defenses against invaders. Part of Ritlite were used as part of the walls of the medieval fortress Koritengrad. The city is stretched to the river, and during archaeological excavations remains of nine churches were found there. The length of the rock formations is from 200 to 400 m, and the thickness - from 3 to 7 meters. Towering 80 meters above the level of the Iskar River, the space between them is overgrown with dense deciduous vegetation.

9. Peak Okolchitsa - here 35-meter monument Cross volunteer in honor of the revolutionary Hristo Botev and his detachment was built . Okolchitsa is part of a hundred tourist sites.

10. Iskar Gorge - only because of the beauty of the gorge the trip worth it!
