The San Alfonso del Mar Pool is functional since December 2006. The pool construction was a challenge and it took five year to complete this mega project. The idea of using sea water to fill the pool was fulfilled by Mr. Fischmann. The treated sea water is clear enough to see the bottom of the pool. The place has also been tested for the earth quake tests and has passed 8+ Richter earthquake on 27th of February, 2010.
The total cost on San Alfonso del Mar Pool is estimated to be about 2 billion dollars including construction and the unique filter system installation charges. The maintenance charges are about two million per year. The total length of the pool is 3,324 feet which covers an area of 20 acres. It is estimated to be equal to the size of 6,000 standard-size 26 foot long pools. The term lagoon is also used for the pool of San Alfonso del Mar. The depth of the pool is about 115 feet.
The San Alfonso del Mar Pool contains 250 million litres (66 million US gallons) of treated seawater. The Pacific Ocean is not suitable for swimming and other activities due to dangerous currents (Humbolt currents) and water being too cold. This world biggest pool filters the water pumped from the Pacific Ocean. As long as there is water in the Pacific Ocean, this swimming pool will remain functional as claimed by the authority. It’s an intelligent way of utilizing the sea water for recreational purposes after filtration and treatment.
The Google rating for the world largest swimming pool is 4 stars. The visit to enjoy a swim in the world largest swimming pool is greatly in demand and frequently visited by the tourists. Most tourists review the visiting and swimming in the crystal clear water as once in a life time kind of experience. The largest part of the pool is only for boating while specific areas are allocated for swimming purposes. The tourists enjoy to their fullest and are delighted with the refreshing swim. The resort receives mix views but the pool is called a paradise without any second thought.
