10. The Pamban Bridge, India

The first sea bridge, opened in 1914, at 2 km (1.4 mi) long is also the second longest one of the kind in the country. It connects Rameswaram – a town on Pamban Island – with the mainland. Along the bridge a railway is built as well, providing a truly scenic ride along the Gulf of Mannar. Tourists use the railway to get to Rameswaram, which is an object of pilgrimages and features the wonderful Hindu temple Ramanathaswamy.
Why to go there?
Have a scenic ride and visit Pamban Island, town of Rameswaram, that is the most popular tourist destination here.

9. Molokai Cliffs, Hawaii

Horseback riding on these precipitous cliffs is one of the most popular attractions here! At 520 m (1700 ft) tall they are the highest ones in the world. The 5 km (3 mi) long trail features amazing panoramic views to the whole island and ocean, ascending and descending twists and turns, that of course feature balancing over the abyss. The tour is definitely not for the faint-hearted!
Why to go there?
Mule as well as horseback riding tours are offered by the travel agencies on this stunning island and take from 2 to 7 hours.

8. The Stelvio Pass, Italy

The pass originally was built by the Austrian Empire in 1820’s and was an engineering wonder at the time. The road connects Stelvio in South Tyrol with Bormio and is the second highest pass in the Alps, which promises one of the best scenic rides ever. The famous Giro d’Italia bicycle race usually passes Stelvio, which is a great challenge for the competitors.
When to go there?
Always check before going – in summer it can be closed sometimes due to the various races taking place. It is entirely closed from November to May.

7. Furka Pass, Switzerland

The road stretches in the Swiss Alps at an elevation of 2 429 m (7 969 ft). That being said, it is one of the highest roads in Europe. Once you hit the road, be prepared to capture the sites like the Rhone glacier, the Schöllenen Gorge, numerous valleys and small Swiss villages. Also it is considered to be one of the most dangerous roads, so be cautious whenever you go there.
When to go there?
The road is closed in winter and anytime the road is not cleaned of snow. So always check before going. Also in summer one can enjoy a ride with the historic Furka Train, which runs from Realp to Gletsch.

6. The Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland

The 2 600 km (1 600 mi) long route stretches along the dramatic coast of western Ireland. It passes nine counties, three provinces, numerous great towns and most importantly a wonderful landscape. Travelers have an opportunity to admire spectacular views and historic monuments throughout their trip. In addition they can always make a stop and go for a walk on a beach or along a precipitous coastline.
Why to go there?
This is definitely one of the most scenic rides on the British Isles and Europe as well. One doesn’t need to complete the whole route to get the impression – every small section of the road provides wonderful experience, great views and outdoor activities. Also rent a bike and explore the scenery from even closer.

5. Maria Island Walk, Australia

The award winning route stretches along the entire island, found next to Tasmania. The mountainous landscape dominates the location and features rich wildlife as well as historic ruins. Popular sites among many are the Painted Cliffs, that feature colorful patterns, and the Fossil Cliffs, containing fossils. Most of the roads are also good for bicycling, while there hardly are any motor vehicles on the island!
Why to go there?
The route is suitable for anyone and is not strenuous at all. Visitors can complete it on a guided tours, that also provide an accommodation, since it takes around 4 days to complete it. Also it attracts day trippers from Tasmania.

4. The Wales Coast Path, Wales, UK

Opened in 2012 the path girths the entire country! Stretching from Chepstow to Queensferry, the route passes some pretty exciting places: eleven National Nature Reserves are on the way, not to mention the dramatic coastline, which varies from sandy beaches and flowery fields to precipitous cliffs.
Why to go there?
The vast route provides great hiking opportunities and amazing views. Travelers also can go bird watching, explore historic monuments and natural reserves, while enjoying outdoor activities.

3. The Great Ocean Walk, Victoria, Australia

Stretching along the Great Ocean Road, the trail provides one of the best hiking experiences. The trail features numerous viewpoints, overlooking the dramatic coast and the ocean. Some sections are easier, while others are more challenging, but adventurous. For instance, hiking along Aire River one might need to wade across it since there are no bridges. However, the picturesque beach of Johanna, found at the end of this particular hike, rewards with amazing views.
Why to go there?
The route is about 100 km (62 mi) long and can be completed in approximately eight days. However, one can choose certain sections and walk only for a chosen amount of time and still be able to enjoy the experience.

2. The Narrows, Zion National Park, Utah, USA

The park is famous for the iconic red canyons, rivers, lakes and waterfalls. Meanwhile the Narrows provides one of the most premier hiking trails in the area. The site was even ranked no. 5 in the list of America’s Best 100 Adventures by National Geographic! Basically it is a narrow gorge with steep red walls and the shallow Virgin River, which hikers can simply wade. One can hike various distances, while completing the route takes a full day.
When to go there?
Spring and summer are the best time to hike the Narrows, since the water levels are low and it is warm. Meanwhile in autumn and winter the freezing water and high levels are too challenging.

1. The Brienzer Rothorn Railway, Switzerland

The scenic route stretches in the Emmental Alps as the steam locomotive slowly ascents to the Brienzer Rothorn mountain. The summit station is located at impressive 2244 m (7362 ft) height! The train also passes tunnels carved in the rock and makes breathtaking loops. It takes about an hour to reach the summit, where restaurants and guest houses pay a warm welcome to everyone. You can also admire the views while hiking: there is a trail that stretches between the stations.
When to go there?
The train runs from May to late October. Check the timetables here.
