Salerno – a Coastal Jewel of Campania, Italy

Salerno, Campania, Italy. The ancient city is found on the shores of the Tyrrhenian Sea and boasts an incredible number of historic buildings. It is not as smart as the Amalfi Coast towns, however it definitely exudes the authenticity and unique charm. The Arechi Castle is the most famous landmark, crowning Salerno on the top of the hill from where great panoramic views to the bay open.
While one can explore the Medieval old town, its churches and museums in the center, a modern area can be found surrounding the harbor. Its port is quite busy as well as the famous promenade, providing a nice trail. One can relish Italian cuisine in the restaurants, that have preserved ancient recipes.
Why to go there?
A characterful town on the western coast of Italy, boasting a rich historic Old Town, great cuisine and spectacular views to the sea.
When to go there?
Late spring and early autumn are the busiest seasons, with lots of events, people and good weather.
How to get there?
The nearest airport is in Naples. Also get here by train, bus or boat. It has a good connection with the Amalfi Coast.
