The appearance of a city can be changed significantly by using bright colors. In 2000 when Edi Rama became the mayor of Tirana, the capital city of Albania, he began a campaign to affix color to the post-communist city. Intense colors were used in the public buildings and apartment blocks, which transformed the city into a colorful capital with pink, green, blue and red colors. If the crumbling tower blocks of Tirana can be brightened up by simply using colors, imagine what colors can do to some of the prettiest cities around the world.
Nyhavn
Located in Denmark, this serene neighborhood facing the Copenhagen harbor is a popular area with both locals and tourists. There are many bars and restaurants in the area which makes an ideal location to relax along the canal or to go bar hopping. Do not miss the number 9, which is the oldest standing building in Copenhagen built in 1681. Hans Christian Andersen, a Danish author lived at number 18 for some years.
Bo-Kaap
Located on the slopes of Signal Hill above the city centre in South Africa, Bo-Kaap is a striking part of Cape Town. Locally, the Bo-Kaap is referred to as the Malay Quarter, because the majority of its inhabitants are descendants of India, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka and of course Malaysia slaves brought here by the Dutch East Indian Trading Company in the 17th and 18th centuries. Tourists can enjoy all the bright and effervescent colors adorning the buildings by walking down the narrow and meandering streets.
Zacatecas
In 1548, the Mexican city of Zacatecas was founded to provide shelter to the silver miners. Between the 16th and 17th centuries, the city reached the height of its prosperity. Built on the slopes of a narrow valley, the city has narrow streets that climb the steep hillsides. Many colorful buildings can be found in the old city center, most of which are from the 18th century. The old structure includes the beautiful Cathedral and the Church of Santo Domingo which has an ornately sculpted facade.
Kulusuk
The otherwise bleak landscape of Greenland is brightening up by plenty of colorful houses scattered around the land. Located on a small rocky island, the settlement of Kulusuk is as such. As the gateway to east Greenland, this tiny village is a popular tourist spot. Stunning views of the enormous icebergs in the Denmark Strait can be enjoyed from this pace. Adventurous tourist can get pleasure from the East Greenland’s magnificent mountains. Kulusk contains only one hotel built in 1999 and a youth hostel.
La Boca
Located in Argentina, La Boca is a working class district of Buenos Aires. La Boca has to be put firmly on this list because of the artistic elegance of its inhabitants. The independent nature of La Boca’s residents is exemplified by the colorful houses that adorned the city. You can find most of the brightly colorful houses around the port. Including the La Bombonera, which is the home of the famous football club Boca Juniors, you can find many tango clubs and Italian taverns in the districts.
Pelourinho
Located in Brazil, Salvador is the capital of the state of Bahia. Salvador is frequently called the Pelourinho. Manarola

Jodhpur
You will find Jodhpur in the middle of the barren Thar Desert in India. This remarkable city is full of forts, palaces and temples. The stark whiteness of the buildings in Jodhpur is almost blinding in the sunlight. And if you view the city from a distance, these same buildings take on a bluish hue. That is why this city is also known as the Blue City.
Punda
Located on the southern coast of the island, Willemstad is the chief town of Curaçao. When set against the Caribbean waters, the Dutch colonial architecture of Willemstad is definitely picturesque. The seat of government of the Netherlands Antilles, the Punda district is the main shopping area. Established in 1634, the Punda is the oldest district of Willemstad. The bright and diverse colors of the buildings in Punda are reason enough to make the journey.
Guanajuato
The beautiful colonial city of Guanajuato is nestled in the mountains of the Sierra de Guanajuato in Mexico. In 1554, the city was constructed close to one of the richest silver mining areas of Mexico. Beautiful haciendas and fine colonial buildings are built in the 16th century mining boom. Many colorful alleyways and Guanajuato streets spread out in every direction while a network of underground tunnels served most of its traffics, which makes it an excellent city for pedestrians.
