Whenever you get to another city the first thing you do is get the map. You do not want to get lost. But once you reach the center or the old town you have to explore it by hitting the narrow, precipitous, short or long alleys. It is even nice to get lost in the web of these streets that take you to the most romantic corners of the city. Check out these nice alleys that are picturesque on their own.
10. Colmar, Alsace region, France
The well preserved old town and the diversity of architectural styles make Colmar one of the most popular destinations in France. The town looks like from a fairy tale and strolling in its romantic streets is one of the most popular activities.

9. Birgu, Malta
The historic fortified city established on the side of the Grand Harbour is a popular tourist attraction. Old churches, palaces and museums are sprinkled around, connected with a web of narrow picturesque streets and alleys, that are indeed fun to discover.

8. Vilnius, Lithuania
The gorgeous old town is one of the oldest and biggest urban ensembles in the Eastern Europe. It is protected by UNESCO and comprises many beautiful buildings from various historic eras. Most of the narrow streets have old authentic stone pavements.

7. Chefchaouen, Morocco
The province is prominent for its unique and beautiful feature: blue houses and alleys. The local people are known for their friendliness and hospitality. Chefchaouen is also famous for the local handcrafts, that are being sold at the markets there, and local cuisine.
How to get there?
By bus from Fez, Tetouan, Casablanca, Rabat, Meknes, Tangier and Ceuta.

6. Bibury, Gloucestershire, England
The old village, mentioned in the Domesday Book (1086), is famous for its stone cottages built in the 17th century. Often referred as the most beautiful village in England, Bibury is definitely very charming and very English. As well as its old romantic alleys.

By train or bus. Bibury is only 1,45 h drive from London.

5. Dubrovnik, Croatia
The whole city is the most important tourist attraction in the country – it is in UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites. Among many narrow and precipitous alleys, Stradun is the main street, crossing through the old town.

Dubrovnik has its own airport. You can also get there by bus, train or boat.

4. Old San Juan, Puerto Rico
Founded in the 16th century, Old San Juan is the oldest settlement in Puerto Rico. It features various sites that are protected by UNESCO. The vibrant houses and unique streets, made of blue bricks, create a spectacular cityscape.

Get in San Juan by Caribbean ferry or plane.

3. Ping Yao, China
Ancient city of Ping Yao used to be the financial center of China in the 14th century. Today it is listed as the World Heritage Site because of its ancient walls. The narrow Medieval streets and markets are well preserved and attract tourists from all around the world.
How to get there?
Fly to Taiyuan’s airport, which is 90 km from Ping Yao. Catch a bus or train from Taiyuan, Xi’an or Guangzhou.

2. The Kasbah des Udayas, Rabat, Morocco
Situated on the Atlantic Ocean Rabat has always been one of the most famous and important cities in the country. It has numerous beautiful examples of Islamic architecture. The ancient fortress features paths surrounded with white and blue walls, making it look so attractive.

Get around Rabat by taxi, bus or simply walking – its center is relatively small and nice to explore.
