Saxon Switzerland – Tall Rock Towers and Extreme Climbing Traditions, Germany

Saxon Switzerland – Tall Rock Towers and Extreme Climbing Traditions, Germany
Saxon Switzerland, Dresden, Saxony, Germany. A beautiful climbing area and a national park are situated in the valley, along the Elbe river. Approximately 1000 peaks attract hikers and offer stunning views. The Bastei is especially appealing – it features a bridge, built between the rock towers, and viewpoints on top of them.
The area is a popular climbing attraction for at least 200 years. Free climbing originated from here and developed an extreme tradition of a Baustelle – a technique when others’ shoulders are used to climb over the difficult sections. However, nonprofessional hikers will also have plenty to do and see in this picturesque park.
Why to go there?
Various tracks, climbing opportunities, great views.
When to go there?
All year round.
How to get there?
By train from Dresden.
