Saint-Malo – a Walled Medieval Port with Numerous Restaurants, France
Saint-Malo, Brittany, France. A walled port city on the English Channel is indeed very picturesque. Its modest population increases tremendously during the tourist season in summer. The city was an important port during the Middle Ages, controlling the entrance between the sea and the Rance River. Later it even became a home for the pirates and the sea voyagers.
The historic architecture is the main attraction here. Castles, walls, towers and churches from various eras can be explored during a guided tour or a random stroll in the city. Besides the historical architecture, tourists love the local cuisine, which is based on fresh seafood. Incidentally, Sain-Malo has the highest concentration of restaurants in Europe!
Why to go there?
The most popular tourist destination in Brittany, fresh seafood, great cuisine.
When to go there?
Anytime. Although summer is the most popular season.
How to get there?
By plane to the local airport, which is 13 km from the center. There is no airport shuttle, except taxis. From the UK get here by ferry. From the mainland get here by train or bus.
