Castelluccio, Umbria, Italy. A very small village is situated high in the mountains and is surrounded with strikingly beautiful nature. At 1452 m high, Castelluccio is the highest village in the Apennines. Officially established in the 13th century, the settlement was inhabited even earlier by the Romans. The fertile slopes are cultivated and famously give a lentils harvest.
But for the travelers Castelluccio is known as a skiing, horseback riding and trekking destination. In the town there are also hang-gliding and para-gliding schools, that offer an unforgettable flight. However, the little village is best known for the colorful valleys, that start blooming in spring and summer. Poppies, rapeseed and wild flowers define the landscape at this time of the year.
