Petra Tou Romiou Beach

Cyprus is a Mediterranean island south of Turkey. Greeks and Turks both played a role in effecting change on the country’s culture, languages, and religion, splitting it into half for the most part. Ultimately however, it is the dream destination of archaeologists, history lovers, and beach bums alike.

Whether you’re an archaeologist or just someone who enjoys history, you should go to Limassol. It is the second largest city of the island country and home to some landmarks that will surely interest you. One of which is the Limasoll Theatre and the other, Kourion. Both are ruins reminiscent of ancient times. The Carnival and Wine Festival are two annual celebrations to look forward to in this city. They take place in February and September, respectively.
Ayia Napa is a must see for hip travellers who want to experience local nightlife. Believe it or not, the city is the second largest clubbing district in the world. If you like beaches and don’t mind crowds, it also makes a good destination. Water sports are also quite popular in Ayia Napa though not as distinct as its night scene.
Larnaca is a city that shipwreck fans and nature lovers will fancy. It’s one of the oldest cities in the island. The famous Zenobia shipwreck can be found along its coast and rated as one of the best shipwreck diving sites in the world. The scenic Larnaka Salt Lake, one of the top reasons to visit Cyprus, is found here and popular for its fauna. As much as 7,000 flamingos can be spotted around the lake.

Platres, a city on the foothills of Troodos Mountains, is another beach destination except it has fewer people around. It is the perfect getaway from the typical crowded promenades of Cyprus. The area is perfect for hiking and picnics. During winter, you can go skiing on the Troodos Mountains.
