Pamulkkale, Turkey | Pamulkkale means cotton castle in Turkish and describes the surreal white terraces of travertine that flow from the hot spring pools above. Over the years mineral deposits from the hot springs have piled up, partially submerging a mausoleum and creating vast stair steps of almost icy looking mineral deposits. However, if you bathe in the hot spring waters, you’ll find them anything but icy.
