Corte Citadel, Corsica | Corsica’s only inland defensive post was built to defend the island against the continual threat of foreign invasion. The Genoese, the French, the Austrians and the Barbary Pirates were constantly trying to get a piece of the small island. When you visit Corte Citadel, head for the viewing platform where you can take pictures and admire the fortress from afar.
