Oi River, Kyoto, Japan | Modernity has been turned away in Kyoto in favor of time-honored traditions. Seasons come and go, but Kyoto remains an area of old world splendor from the 1,000 Buddhist temples to the unspoiled beauty of the Oi River. The only marking of time passing is the changing hair ornaments of the geisha, which are switched out 12 times a year to celebrate nature.
