Aran Islands, Ireland | Day-trippers are transported to the desolate isles that feel farther removed from the mainland than the 45-minute ferry ride would suggest. A network of stone walls run across the three islands, creating borders and definitions to the wild and windswept lands. Culture and traditions are preserved on the isolated islands where Gaelic is still the first language and ancient archaeological sites persist.
