Altai Mountains, Siberia | The Altai Mountains rise up where China, Mongolia, Russia and Kazakhstan come together. The region has over a thousand glaciers, huge valleys of wildflowers, mountain lakes and high peaks. This unique environment hosts many plants and animals that can be found nowhere else, including the snow leopard. Iron and brass-working nomadic cultures populated the area during early human history, leaving mysterious monuments and archaeological artifacts scattered through the mountains and down onto the plains.
