Svalbard, Norway. A Norwegian archipelago is located in the Arctic Sea and is the northernmost settlement on Earth. Since the 17th century the islands were inhabited and used by the whale hunters. Today coal mining and fishing have been keeping the archipelago populated as they are the main branches of economy. As well as tourism.
There are numerous all year round activities on the islands. Various expeditions, that include kayaking, hiking, dog sledding, skiing, horseback riding, driving a snowmobile, enable to explore extraordinary nature of Svalbard. There are also glaciers and ice caves to discover in this land of permanent snow. Visitors also get to see the Arctic animals like Polar bears, seals and whales.

This is indeed a unique place to visit. Tourist facilities are very well developed and one can hire a guide, a transportation and get on a tour around this Arctic wonder. It is also a popular research destination, that attracts scientists from all around the world.
When to go there?
Every season has its own distinctive spirit. The Polar Night takes place from December to February – Aurora Borealis can be seen at this time.
How to get there?
There are direct flights from Oslo – three times a week in winter and even more often in summer. The Airport shuttle picks up visitors and takes them to various accommodations.
