It is located on the Bow River, in the Canadian Rockies and has an altitude of 1920 m. It is included in one of the lakes that line the Icefields Parkway in Jasper National Park and Banff National Park, other such lakes being Lake Louise, Hector Lake, Waterfowl Lakes, Mistaya Lake, Peyto Lake, Sunwapta Lake and Chephren Lake.
