The Brienzer Rothorn Railway – a Panoramic Ascent in Switzerland

The Brienzer Rothorn Railway – a Panoramic Ascent in Switzerland
The Brienzer Rothorn Railway, Switzerland. The first railway here was opened in 1892 by initiative of German engineer Alexander Lindner. Today the scenic route stretches in the Emmental Alps as the steam locomotive slowly ascents to the Brienzer Rothorn mountain. The summit station is located at impressive 2244 m (7362 ft) height!
The breathtaking panoramic views to the Waldemme valley and Lake Brienz attract thousands of tourists every year. The train also passes tunnels carved in the rock and makes breathtaking loops. It takes about an hour to reach the summit, where restaurants and guest houses pay a warm welcome to everyone. You can also admire the views while hiking: there is a trail that stretches between the stations.
Why to go there?
It is the fourth highest railway in the country, that provides wonderful panoramic views, great service and facilities. One of the best scenic rides we have seen!
When to go there?
The train runs from May to late October. Check the timetables here.
How to get there?
Get there by car or train from Lucerne and Interlaken. You can get there by boat from Interlaken too.
