The Eagle’s Walk

The longest trail in Austria, in fact the longest in Europe, is the Eagle’s Walk, which covers 1480km in all and rises 87,000m. The trail passes some of the most magnificent scenery in the world as it winds through the Austrian Tyrol from St Johann to St Anton am Arlberg. It’s a very diverse trail, comprising of 126 different one-day hikes or stages and offering a wide variety of terrain as it meanders past the magnificent Kaiser Mountains.
Alpe-Adria Trail

One of the most scenic trails in Austria is the Alpe-Adria Trail, a 700km journey that traverses three countries (Austria, Slovenia and Italy). Hikers start at the foot of Austria’s highest mountain, the majestic Grossglockner, and trek past stunning lakes, streams, rivers and other fascinating sights en route to the Adriatic Sea. The trail is made up of 43 different stages, each 17km long.
Wilder Kaiser

One of Austria’s most popular hiking regions is the Wilder Kaiser, which is made up of the villages of Ellmau, Going, Sheffau and Soll in the Kaisergebirge nature conservation area. There are over 400km of hiking tails in the pristine Kaiser area to choose from.
Leutasch Spirit Gorge Trail

Finally, if you’re staying in Innsbruck, you can enjoy the Leutasch Spirit Gorge Trail, 35km from the city. The trail itself is just 3km long and it’s an easy hike along an exciting and breathtaking path past waterfalls and rock formations.
Cheese Trail

For something entirely different, take the famous Cheese Trail in Bregenzerwald, which entails a scenic route past various dairies, cheese makers, inns, museums and restaurants, sampling superb cheese. It’s a novel and exciting way to learn about the Vorarlberg region and its cheese production. Stops along the route include the modern cheese cellar in Lingenau, the Kasehaus in Andelsbuch, which offers a variety of cheeses for sale, and the alpine dairy school in Egg, where visitors get to make their own cheese.
