Furka Pass – the Most Scenic Ride in the Swiss Alps, Switzerland

Furka Pass – the Most Scenic Ride in the Swiss Alps, Switzerland
Furka Pass, Switzerland. The road stretches in the Swiss Alps at an elevation of 2 429 m (7 969 ft). That being said, it is one of the highest roads in Europe. Furka Pass provides a truly scenic ride – panoramic views, the height, twists and turns – unsurprisingly James Bond saga was filmed here: you can admire the road in „Goldfinger“.
This is also regarded as one of the most dangerous and difficult roads. The precipitous slopes aren’t easy to navigate, especially the first section. At least it is wide and smooth: but in the dark or rain it can be very hard to drive. However once you hit the road, be prepared to capture the sites like the Rhone glacier, the Schöllenen Gorge, numerous valleys and small Swiss villages.
Why to go there?
Certainly one of the most scenic rides in the world. Furka Pass sprawls over the spectacular surroundings, providing a breathtaking experience.
When to go there?
The road is closed in winter and anytime the road is not cleaned of snow. So always check before going. Also in summer one can enjoy a ride with the historic Furka Train, which runs from Realp to Gletsch.
How to get there?
Get there by car: Furka Pass connects Andermatt in the canton of Uri with Gletsch in Valais.
