  1. Checked baggage allowances

    A green suitcase.
You'd be surprised what you can fit in a suitcase when you fly with us. Our with-baggage fares include at least one bag per person of up to 23kg. All you have to do is make sure the zip shuts.

How to work out your allowance

If you already have a booking with us, the easiest way to check is to log into Manage My Booking where your personal allowance has been worked out for you.
Alternatively, for allowances on British Airways flights, refer to the tables below according to your intended class of travel.

    Hand baggage only

If you are travelling on a UK Domestic or European shorthaul flight, to and from London, you can travel light and make a quick getaway with our hand baggage only fares. These don't include a checked baggage allowance but everything else is covered by the great-value price, including free online check-in, allocated seats, the same generous hand baggage allowance, and refreshments on board. Infants and children on a hand baggage only fare may still check a fully collapsible pushchair (stroller) and a car seat.
If your plans change, you can arrange to check in bags for an additional fee.

    Other airlines

If your journey is partly or entirely with another airline your allowance may differ. See Allowances on other airlines below for details.

    Bag sizes and bulky items

A checked bag can be up to 90cm x 75cm x 43cm (35.5in x 29.5in x 16in) – including any bits that stick out, like the handle, pockets and wheels.
We have special arrangements for sporting equipment like skis and surfboards and large musical instruments. In many cases these can be carried as part of your free baggage allowance.

    Oversized bags

Larger items of up to 190cm x 75cm x 65cm (75in x 29.5in x 25.5in) can be carried for an additional over-sized bag charge. (Currently, we waive this charge so you do not pay it.)
    Any items larger than 190cm x 75cm x 65cm (75in x 29.5in x 25.5in) require separate shipping as cargo.

    Allowances on British Airways

    Including OpenSkies and CityFlyer

We can't make packing fun but with our inclusive baggage allowances at least you'll have one less thing to worry about.
Our free baggage allowance uses a piece system, with a maximum weight for each piece of luggage. Sorry, it's not possible to split the maximum weight across more than one piece of baggage, unless your baggage allowance is more than one piece of baggage.

    • You fly from Manchester to London in UK Domestic and connect from London to Rome in Club Europe. The Club Europe allowance applies to your entire journey.
    • You fly from London to Dubai in World Traveller and return in World Traveller Plus. The World Traveller Plus allowance applies to your entire journey.

It's possible to take more bags than your free allowance for an additional fee. You’ll get the best rate if you pay online in advance.
Bags between 23 and 32kg (51–70lb) may incur additional charges depending on your allowance. Any bag over 32kg (70lb) will require separate shipping as cargo.
    expandedhideWheelchairs and mobility aids
You can take as many mobility aids, such as a wheelchair, as you need for personal use, which we'll carry free of charge on top of your free baggage allowance.

    Allowances on other airlines

Baggage allowances and policies can vary by airline — even if you buy your flights through ba.com. If your journey includes a flight with an airline other than British Airways, your checked baggage allowance may be different:
    • If your entire journey is with another airline, their checked baggage allowance will apply.
    • If your journey includes connecting flights with more than one airline, the checked baggage policy of the airline that operates the longer leg will apply. For example, if you fly with American Airlines from New York to London and connect onto British Airways to Amsterdam, the leg with American Airlines is longer and their baggage policy applies to the whole journey.
