1. Murud Janjira
“Janjira Fort is one of the oldest forts, constructed in 11th century and still it is in good condition. This fort is near Murud of Raigad district of Maharashtra and it is constructed on an island. You have to travel by a yacht. There is a cannon, which is said to India's 2nd largest cannon and is is made up of alloys. The speciality of this cannon is it remains cold even when it's blazing hot.”
2. Raigad Fort
“Main attraction is the ropeway facility to climb & descend from the fort. Especially during monsoon season i.e. from June to end August, you will get a feel of travelling through clouds. You can also opt for one way travel by ropeway & ascending or descending by foot from the stair route.”
3. Sindhudurg Fort
“Sindhudurg Fort sits just off the coast of Malvan in the sea. Once there, you have one hour to visit the fort, which we thought was too rushed a visit, it would've been better to have 2-3 hours to do justice to the fort. The fort though dilapidated is still quite majestic, and has great views of the bluey-green waters below. The only temple dedicated to Shivaji is found within its walls. There are also some operators conducting scuba and snorkelling around the fort.”
4. Panhala Fort
“I have visited Panhala fort so many times. It is the best place to visit in Kolhapur. It was the former capital city of Karveer Nagari (Kolhapur) during the times of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It is a very calm place”
5. Rajmachi, Khandala
“Good place. Sightseeing is awesome. Must visit this place, especially during monsoon.”
6. Pratapgad Fort, Satara
The Pratapgad Fort is a very important site as the legendary Battle of Pratapgad was fought here. The fort name literally means 'valor fort'. It is said that after killing Afzal Khan, Shivaji Maharaj buried his head under the tower in the fort.
7. Lohagad Fort
“Have climbed the fort thrice in three different seasons right from the base of the hill before the right turn to Pavna. The trek is largely easy but gets quite intimidating towards the end near Vinchu Kata. Best season is definitely monsoon when the top of the hill is entirely covered in clouds. The view is mesmerising giving a panoramic view of Lonavala to the west, Pavna Lake to the south and Visapur Fort to the north. Also, a good place to spot snakes in the off season."
8. Tikona Fort, Lonavala
“Awesome point to trek and a night stay too. You can stay in the cave at the top. There is a temple there, and one gets a wonderful view of the Pavana Dam.”
Tikona Fort, also known as ‘Triangle Fort’, is located at an altitude of 3633 feet above sea level. The entrance of the fort is the major attraction. This fort encloses numerous Buddhist caves and Satavahana caves with a temple of 'Trimbakeshwar Mahadev' inside.
9. Daulatabad Fort, Aurangabad
“Good fort, good scenic view during sunset. Lot of wild fruits available near the fort.”
10. Sinhagad Fort, Pune
“Awesome place near Pune city, pleasant atmosphere now. Its a paisa vasool trip, lot of food stalls with traditional Maharashtrian style food menu. I recommend other travellers to visit this place. Don't forgot to carry your camera.
