An adventurer’s guide to Thethi – Albania

One of the must see Albanian destinations, Thethi National Park is located close to the Adriatic Sea on the Western tip of the Balkan Peninsula. The park is surrounded by spectacular mountains, the highest of which is Populka Mountain (2600 meters).
Thethi is part of the Albanian Alps in the northern part of the country and is often voted the most beautiful national park in the Balkans, despite the fierce competition. Together with its brother Valbonë Valley National Park, it forms a stunning area along the Thethi River, surrounded by high breathtaking cliffs and deep green valleys, making visitors feel as if they are in a fairy tale.

Thethi can be the perfect destination for those who love adventures and extreme sports like climbing and alpinism, but it can also be a great family destination thanks to magical places like the Grunas Waterfall, which is one of the main attractions in the park.
The exceptional 30 meter (98 foot) tall waterfall can be the final destination of a great hiking trip through the mountains. The picturesque route starts from a local Albanian village, goes through theGrunas Canyon which is 2 km long and follows the Thethi River. Just when hikers start to get tired, their efforts are rewarded by the magnificent scenery of the waterfall.
Other sites in Thethi National Park one should not miss are the Flour Mill, the lock-in tower and some of the most beautiful and pristine peaks in Europe.
